How to make long distance relationship work? - The Road to Unknown

Here are some tips to make long distance relationship work. Remember that the strongest relationships need a lot of hard work.

1. Keep the contact. Use Skype, send mails and texts to each other and try to call each other when you both have time to talk. Try to keep up the things that are happening in your lives. You can also send fan mail and small packages to brighten up the other person's day.

2. Talk about your goals. Be sure you are in the same page about your relationship. Talk about what you are expecting from the relationship..and be honest. Talk about how you want the long distance relationship to be handled..if other people are allowed and how often you should try to meet each other.

3. Trust the other person and be worthy of the trust. Don't cheat or look for someone to fill the empty bed. Would you do that if your partner would be around? I guess not. If you cheat, it can ruin the whole relationship. If you miss your partner, plan a trip to meet him/her. That's much better and healthier option if you want to keep your relationship alive.

4. Talk about your future together. Talk about the plans and wishes you have. Tell the other person how long you are willing to be in a long distance relationship, when you would like to move together, when to move forward in the relationship, and your dreams about marriage or children.

5. Visit as often as you can. Relationship can't last just through phone calls and Skype. You also need to see each other in person and have time to take care of the physical parts of the relationship. Talk about how often you would like to see each other and make plans to get together when you can. If you are not living too far away and the traveling is not expensive, it's easier to meet more often. If you have to fly to reach the other person, you are probably going to see less often. That's why it's important to plan ahead and make sure you say a bit longer than couple of days.

6. Be honest with each other. Talk honestly about your feelings and thoughts. If you are missing the person too much or you think the situation is too hard, discuss about it. Maybe there are ways you can do to improve the situation.

7. Stay positive..even when it's difficult. In really tough time try to find some things to do that you really enjoy. Go dancing, get together with some friends or go to the movies. Try to keep your spirit up. The worst thing you can do is to get depressed about the situation. Think about it in a positive way. If you know that your partner is going to come to visit you soon, make some plans for each other. Even if you can't be together at the moment, in the future you can.

8. Be there for each other. It's important to support the other person and be there when the other one is going through a tough time. Find a moment when you both have time to listen each other's problems and worries.

9. Remember the past and dream about the future. It's good to recall in your mind why you fell in love with each other, what you love about the other person, which great memories you have etc. This keeps you reminded why this relationship is worth of fighting for. Dream also about the future you might have together. Realize that even if the situation feels hard, it will not continue like this forever.

10. Appreciate the time you have together. When you don't see each other so often make use of the time you have together. Be sure that you take care also the intimate aspects of your relationship. Don't worry about tomorrow..just concentrate on each other.
